Got hooked at the start, but the rewards don't seem to keep up with the increasing difficulty. Action's fun but monotone without additional reward. Upgrade range looks good, but there's not much more to the process than waiting, clickjng, waiting, clicking... feels the process could be a bit more dynamic. Keep it going!

What an incredibly elaborate game this was! It reminds me of Fallout, and though I've actually never been that big a fan of that specific game franchise (too strategical action - too little direct action), it works well in Flash where the visuals are somewhat more limited, and it does have visuals, plenty of characters; sceneries, even if the very elaborate interfaces play the largest role in playing the game.

I'm initially impressed by the amount of customizability offered for even the basic things like character appearance (even if we don't see the character too often), the richness of dialog and the wealth of options in the game itself, the vastness of the map, just the overall breadth of gameplay that seems to be available. And if it's not enough there's those DLCs, though sadly not playable within the game itself. Also a bit surprised instructions; credits aren't included within the actual game but on a separate page.

Though the interface might seem dauntingly complex at the start, it makes sense, it's intuitive when you get to know it, and all the guides that move you through the process the first time you play are very useful reference. Wish there'd be an easy mode in addition to the normal and hard, but overall: great game!

Finally found that final article of interest! :D Overall this turned out a pretty awesome collab, with plenty of inspiring artistry and some scrutinous searching for clues along with the views. Feels like I've memorized all the art by now. Controls; interface was great, music nice and Christmassy, and the easter egg's an appreciated reward when it's all. Merry Illuminatimas!

Thanks CD. I think I can remember most of the references now from continuous play-testing (minus the ones that were originally overlooked! :( )

Sorry I dropped your double-X reference, btw. It was a last minute drop because I realised there was a few XX ones about, mostly accidental, so I removed it to keep things simple. But hopefully it all works out and I find your card has one of the most striking designs.

Have a merry Christmas!

Title like retro design isn't the best design there is. ;) I like the game overall, but after gaining both the money and jump medal on level 8, probably having died as many times as I've jumped, finally beating it and realizing that... level 9 was no easier, I just don't have the perseverance to get through through the rest. That gold medal medal seems worth a hundred points at least. ;)

I feel like the sliding control is the biggest fault here, as normally precision-based platformers have control that benefits precision, whereas this seems more suited for a regular run-and-gun type game. Or maybe I just suck at this game. :P Anyway, I like everything apart from the difficulty, feels there's not reward enough to merit the struggle!

This was a pretty cool game, short and sweet, each level a new stage and difficulty and boss at the end, just like the old days! :D Found the mountain climbing (where lower parts of the level disappear as you go) pretty hard at first, and thought I was stuck on the 3d boss for good, but it's all beatable with a little perseverance, and with just the right amount of aggravation it just becomes all the more rewarding when you beat it! Compared to the third boss the fourth seemed easy too, which feels like a rewarding finish. Credits end a bit abruptly after that, though. The graphics... are they the same as the full game, with a little bit of filtering to get that awesome GB effect? Great game!

Awesome review! I'm glad ye enjoyed playing it! Sorry about boss 3 being a bit of a pain, I wasn't sure to dumb him down a wee bit. They're edited, (or some are just totally new,) to fit the game boy screen. Like the sprites are all new, same with most of the tiles. Yeah, sorry about the ending, I was a little rushed for time, but I guess it's somewhat like the ol' days.

Again, glad ye liked the game!

I thought Sokoban was a bit of a forgotten old gem, but look what greatness it's inspired! Definitely better than the original in all ways, with smoother controls, graphics, etc - yet still just as 'simple' in interface/control. Though it's been ages since I played that one, it seems like the level designs are all new as well; everything - only the name itself a homage. Levels 1-10 were passable with a little puzzling, after that... I hit a wall. Been trying different routes for way too long on this single level, though it's probably the simplest thing to get past once you know how. Anyway, great game! Though the easier ones are always a blast to play through, it's refreshing with one that really forces you to think.

Arrrgh, so difficult! The interface is great, level design looks great (just like an oldskool platformer), but actually playing it... that's a different thing altogether. Course that's probably the intention, but I don't mind easier challenges myself, a balance between wanting to reply and being rewarded for it. Apart from the fact that I probably won't ever have the patience to finish it, it looks good!

So much great artistry here! A simple interface for browsing and entertaining easter eggs too, all not too hard to find with a little clicking around. Artist comments were a neat little bonus feature too. Nice work!

All this game is missing is a highscore table... and maybe an easier survival medal, seems like reaching 225 is based more on luck with power ups than actual combat ability, since there is only so much you can do to stay safe (get a shield or max power) while incinerating targets the fastest you can. I enjoyed Normal mode though, and the style of attack feels pretty refreshing compared to the usual click and kill. Simple, innovative and spacey fun. Good game!
