A Heartfelt Hexalist Update

I just took over the hexalist! Take a look. It's a one-of-a-kind update, a hearty batch of rosy dosage. :P And of course I'm taking the lead in the lists... though it's going to be strange not being able to respond on my rank-climbing rise on my own updates. :/

Yeah, I've been acting both saving and blamming and posting and reviewing, all stats are counted. :P What I mean is I am literally taking over the list though. I'm the new updater!! :)

Haha, man that's AWESOME. :D There's no save feature unfortunately, I guess I should figure out how to do that till next year. For now, printscreens are the way! If you make any more send them over, I wasn't planning to but since you posted this I might as well make a gallery on my site... just like last year.

Also i wish i could be more dedicated in my blamming and saving, but is like i have yet to figure out what will be saved and what will be blammed.

Well you know working with hearts is harder than needed, so i don't see myself making more of those XD.

You plan on scouting all of them?! I've found some awesome artists too, but to make sure they're not trolls or fakes takes some time... being responsible for their work keeps me from scouting as many as I'd like to.

Well you'll figure it out. :) Just vote what you think it's worth, but if you tend to vote low even for submissions you know others will appreciate, maybe stay above one to get some points. Currently submissions that usually merit a blam are: nooby first flashes, tests and obvious spam. But you already know that right? Looks like you'll be getting to 10k exp in a couple hundred days btw, if you vote on around 40 submissions per day you'll get to 2x10k at the same time!

Hehe, well you made the one awesome one! :) Let's see if anyone else contributes something... I still haven't drawn anything myself btw, stayed up way too late making this yesterday, and now... studies.

All of them? hell no, just the ones that i see and say: "this bastard is crazy enough, his dementia is worth the risk", also those are hardly fake, because their art is so peculiar, plus most of them have their own pages, others are just starting, i always try to talk with them a couple of time first, http://doomroar.newgrounds.com/favorites/art check the last 14 or so they are all, just incredible, and they don't see like the type of art that is stolen, or user that would do some stupid stuff to get himself banned XD.

Yeah but for example remember all those pacman games? i was death sure those were going to get the blam hammer for sure but no, and there is also the hentai demos, those always pass...

lol OK, you know what you're doing then. :) That 3,8k pages comment had me a bit preoccupied ya know. :P Most of the unscouted artists with considerable talent are at the beginning, I browsed through a ton of pages further back on a scouting spree once but didn't find anything, some good works, but no users with four good works so I couldn't scout them anyway. Only time scout-worthy material ends up that far back is when a user who's scouted users gets unscouted... yeah, oh wait, that user isn't even scouted yet!! I guess you've sent a request already though?

That definitely looks legit btw. I get a bit cautious when I see new users who submit a load of great art though, without linking to other profiles, without otherwise engaging themselves in the community, sometimes with different signatures in their art than their username. :) You never know you know? Some are easier to 'validate' than others.

Whaaa, Pacman games? I submitted a Pacman game last year. :/ What's wrong with Pacman games? As for hentai, yeah that gets upvoted easily, some forms of content people just can not resist! The blam quota you can get per day is rather limited nowadays, but at least there are plenty of saves... I don't really know how to vote on speedpaint videos btw, I started trying to blam the lot of them cause I feel they have no place here, but they seem to be getting through so... I don't know.

Yeah i actually favorited users and works to remind myself of all the ones that i see promising regardless if i can scout them or not, and of course comments and PMs to see if they are still active.

Yeah getting unscouted is something i really don't want to happen, that is why i am trying to be as biased as i can XD, but is kinda sad because there are others that you know that they deserve to be scouted, but then you are like "aaaah what if he fucks up and then i have to pay?", also the one that scouted me gets to suffer too i think... damn it is a gamble!

Well i send request to some, with others i am still waiting to see if they are active or not, if they reply or not, but i don't really mind if they get scouted by me or not, as long as they get to be in the art portal.
Well i am certain of the legitimacy of all of them, except for this guy here: http://madiso.newgrounds.com/ however, look at that! is incredible!!! if is stolen art then that is some gusty motherfucker, but yeah unlike all the others i have been unable to either make contact or at least fin him outside NG!

Haha well i had some ulterior motives with speedpaints, so i voted all the initials with 3 or more stars, and nowadays i know they will pass so i gave them 2, man now that i think about it that project went nowhere XD.

They passed, but i guess they being obvious shovelware made them to get eventually deleted, the problem is that they ALL passed regardless of me voting 0, and then in frustration starting giving 2s XD.

Aha, guess you keep track of the favorite user activity stream too then? Feels like there's too much content in that box to keep, but that sounds like a good system.

Yeah, it really is! At times I think the rules probably aren't meant to be taken that seriously, they're just there to discourage those who don't have as much to loose and don't mind abusing the system. Some users get unscouted without their scouts being affected, for others (like when Wegra was recently unscouted) a lot of other people go at the same time. So you never know, I guess it's up to chance; which mod does the checking. It'd be great if scouting was automatic so you could scout some old users who don't submit stuff any longer, they'd be no trouble. :P

That 'scouted * users' is a bit of a bragging right though. :) That's a noble way of thinking!

Surely you haven't seen all of them though! Every once in a while there's one who gets all their content purged and is - evidently - a fake. O_o But the ones who submit other peoples work without knowing they're not allowed to are usually easy to spot...

That was one inspiring artwork... real gem. At least the ones with just one work shouldn't be trolls, they can't possible get scouted if they don't submit three more so... that must not be their purpose. :)

All the time. :) The day after I wrote my last chapter I was all out of words though, strange time.... usually the more I write the easier it gets; the faster it goes. When you start stalling that's when it gets harder and harder.

Not really all that clogged, it is all manageable, NG is not really all that active, is sad but is the truth, and since i am biased as it gets i don't have all that much in my fav users, plus some of them are not really active, hell i myself hardly post or update XD.

Nothing worse than a moody mod. Man that would be awesome, automatic scouting, but it would be nice to get in contact with those old users, and to see them active again.
Bragging right? well you scouted Antiskill, who then scouted MisterHerbal, and so and so, dude! that is one hell of a roll!!!!! but you know what? even if is tempting to get that bragging rigth, i still prefer to have them in the art portal, so if you want you can scout the ones i have not.

Well i am only at page 1200, for the ones that i have considered most of them have replied and have pages in other places, like Tumblr or DA, so i get to double-check Madiso and Cebola, are only here, but at least Cebola has been active for at least 2 years, with semi constant upload, and his style seems his own, but who knows maybe he is a con artist that has been undetected for more than 2 years, and "his" art is submitted only here, maybe i get this lucky because i am mostly interested into traditional surreal art and the like, which is not really a popular genre to begin with.

Haha yeah i really don't know what happened with him, and google search isn't helping either.

The project was an idea i was developing with Mr VicariousE about a stream (Twicth style), for art tutorials and speed paints, that could integrate multy cams, real time chat, and art collabs, along with a file converter system, but yeah that never took fly, however the support for speed paints passed, by that time Tom talked about the theme, it was really a coincidence because we had that idea for a month or so before Tom made that post about speed paints, so we saw the success of Speedpaints getting approved as a clue for the stream system to also at least get a consideration, but no luck there was no time or resources, nor people interested and capable to work on it.

716 users! Heh, I'd think you'd get a clogged feed too but I guess that's all relative, I pay more attention to other content blocks than that one (P-bot posts and portals) but it's probably a habitual thing... or maybe you spend a bit more time on content than I do. :P

Yeah, it's great seeing old users pop up again after a long hiatus, during that censorship thing last year a lot of old users made an appearance! Twas a nostalgic moment... as for automatic scouting btw, it was that way on the audio portal for a while, but they've modernized that system now. Whaaaat, he scouted MisterHerbal?! Man I need to go check out my scouts... hehe, well I don't know which one's you do scout (apart from the one you just mentioned, which I'll leave be) but I should definately get back to checking the art portal every once in a while, been more on other areas of the site lately.

Actually it is 718 and growing XD, haha well i actually check my feed and it gets like one page per day, and most of those are art submissions, then some movies and games, not really much Audio because i haven't paid that much attention to that portal, then i go to the classic portal and check the under judgement and the blue submissions, sometimes the green ones, then i check the art portal wich usually gets 3 or 4 pages of new content per day, and that's it, that process is divided in 2 times per day, sometimes 3. Really commenting takes more time XD, i am kinda glad of not being on the BBS, that would mean the end of my free time haha.

I have 2 scouts and 3 other pending, funny enough the ones that i have scouted are all traditional artist that make landscapes, and i am not even that much of an still-life, portraits and landscape lover haha. Yo man if you can get in contact with Madiso please do scout him, i don't care as long as i get to see more of him! and well the same holds true for all the others i don't really want to monopolize them, i just want to see more of them.

Yeah i think i mentioned it earlier, or maybe you saw us talking about it here and there, it did consumed quite a bunch of resources, just the server for the streams was already proving to be a problem, and even to make a beta we would be needing quite a decent server, and then there was the issue of the file converter that had to be coded, the idea was a way to associated various type of files inside one common format, for example imagine saving a .PSD file that can be opened as a .PNG without losing all your filters and layers, but that is also compatible with lets say Gimp, Vicarious wanted to go even further and say that instead of that NG should have its own image editor, but i told him that DA already has one of those, and no one really likes it regardless of how much they update it XD, anyway we got some points out of the way, polished others and were ready to present the idea, and them some stuff happened and it ended unpublished, i hope no other site comes with this before NG can even at least consider it.

lol, twas 716 at the time I wrote that comment below. At a pace of two users per day it'll be up at... 1448 in a year! :P Ah, interesting to know the routines of other users. Myself I usually check the portal first thing in the morning, and all new UJ flash, then PMs and the frontpage for any new comments/reviews/forum responses, eventual new news and then: post a comment on the Top 5 of yesterday and watch/review! I repeat the portal UJ process at random intervals during the day, depending on how much new stuff seems to be submitted, if there's a lot of it I probably check more often, probably usually around... once ever other hour? Probably different for different days. If I'm on NG doing other stuff I check back on the portal more often. If there'x extra time (IOW if I really have no time for anything and procrastinate because I should be doing a ton of other stuff): I usually flood the BBS a bit and/or check out newsposts and/or new art in the art portal and/or review a bunch of submissions through KWAS lists of reviews (for some reason I decided to review everything he's reviewed... there's just about 10k submissions left now) and occasionally open up the profiles of all my listed buddies and see if they've posted anything I've missed. I check that content stream on the frontpage just on the frontpage, so I only see the latest four submissions (and thus probably miss quite a bit of food stuff). Occasionally I have these streams of interest for medal games too, and attempt to gain as many as possible, but there's not time for all of this!

Ah, I would scout Madiso if I could! But he only has a single artwork so... well I sent him a PM. If he ever gets back I hope he responds.

Yeah, that might've been it, might've been VivariousE's profile... though why am I even pondering on how this idea was mentioned in the first place! What matters is I heard it. :P Didn't know DA had an image editor, that's pretty cool! I don't think they did last time I signed in back in... 2006. :P Well image conversions are supported by a lot of programs, but having one of those run on a server is a different thing. I guess since servers run linux it could run as a regular program, but most 'programs' online are really just scripts, no visual interfaces or anything. Maybe we should stop speaking of this secret idea before some huge corporation stumbles upon these posts and steal it. :P

Haha, spammer is a harsh word! I know what it's like to want to submit a lot of stuff. :P Though back then you didn't even get any profit for submissions, there's a new incentive to get rid of shovelware now (actually there was less incentive to even submit shovelware back then, strange). You didn't get dem points? It should be so that if a submission is removed by mods, users who voted to blam it get their points retrospectively. Least that's how it used to be!

Dat flappy bird, i personally played the game here on NG, but couldn't spend more than 5 min on it, people they still evade my understatement!

I think it is safe for now, because the video platform in both DA and Tumblr sucks, the streaming on YT sucks, and Twitch has nothing to do with art, so NG kinda has an advantage over the competition right now if it ever decides to go with it, some people are using this http://www.jwplayer.com on Tumblr but i think NG can get ahead of it with ease, plus we propose way more than just a streaming tool, but yeah it is weird because we needed to make propaganda for this but at the same time we needed to be quiet about it, that was also another part of the problem, maybe if we made a lot of noise we could have got more people and the resource through crowd founding, but then there is the danger of the idea getting stolen, i guess cowardice won at the end XD.

Ah but what about my free save points then? lol, but he was an spammer, it was the same thing exactly the same thing over, and over again, the only change was the images on the preloaders and the tittle of the games.

And it used to be used everywhere, I've seen it around tons of viral media sites over the years, then everybody started making their own... or making it look like their own maybe, using new skins... well if this was to be for NG how would crowdfunding have worked? Or was it supposed to be a separate site? Well you could use that for resources, but you'd need to get some good programmers on board too! The NG staff doesn't seem to have time for all these new features they're working on already. Btw, looks like Kickstarter was hacked back on Wednesday, they're advising users to change their passwords.

Haha, well it's either one or the other so you can't loose anything. :P Or both, I'd like to think you never lose a point, so if you get a retrospective blam you still keep the save... but who knows. There used to be pretty intense debates on stuff like this back in the day, but things have changed since then and now nobody knows anything or bothers to research it. Ah, that's a difference then! I changed the content and everything, just used the same interface.

It is definitively an idea for NG, crowd funding could be done by the beta testers to get early access to the app, which then they could use for their own interests while they test it at the same time, of course the thing itself is free so after it comes out of beta the guys who helped with funds wont get any other advantage other than the recognition and satisfaction of helping the thing to be made, most of that would be going to the server, and coders who would probably be the regular team of NG liljim, Bren, etc.

And yeah that is exactly what happened! (in big part) the NG team doesn't really has the time to work in such a thing so we didn't publish the idea, Mr. Vicarious stopped me on time before i started harassing the guys with messages about the idea XD hahaha.

So... i get the save points? but it was in his last 2 submissions that i made the compromise of giving him 2s, so do i get all my other 7+ blam points? all for a nice 9+ points of saves and blams? after all even if they passed in the end they got deleted...

Well as a matter of fact, I am hacking the hexalist! Will be doing some pretty neat changes on dynamic sorting order for the next one. But that's probably not the type of hacking you meant. :P OMD!

It can't have been submitted by original author or with permission, so it'll probably get taken down eventually if it isn't. lol it won't be about puppies! Sorry! But if you're really interested we could do a collabo effort on that. :P Need to figure out how to code a game like this first though, design's the easy part.

You could always have perks in the form of credits on some NG-page, maybe the site could finance some supporter-upgrades or some special VIP/kickstarter status for heavy donators, send out stickers as another perk, you know? There's definitely potential. But as far as the regular team, it looks like they have their hands full... aha, k, hutting down topic then, again. :P

Yupp, sortable by all categories that allow sorting... which should be all categories. :) Still don't know if it works in practice but we shall see... usually dynamic tables are stored via a database, but this is all static so I'll be trying out some nifty JS/ajax scripts.

My feed is not all that big, and is mostly of art submissions, so yeah there is time for that haha.
