Big congrats, man! Here's hoping for at least another ten! I've been around for nine years now (not with this account though, shh) and I love that so many people stick by this website even of they've left for short periods of time and then returned.

Big thanks, man! Makes me wonder about which your old account was, and why the change? This place is like the Hotel California, you can check out any time you want... but you can never leave. :P

Cyber Devil for NG PRESIDENT 2014

Thank you thank you! Elections are coming up, so I'd like to make you all aware that I have a ton of promises and I don't break them. Press this dent.

I'm not sure why, but I was under the impression that I could not access the old profiles through the WayBackMachine. If it wasn't for you, I'd still be screenshotless! All of this led to me finding the id's of 3 movies I had Wade delete for me back in the day, so I'm really happy about that too! So hey, thanks for the tip man!

Probably because the profile ID was removed from the pages, and the old ones are hard to find the URL to if you don't go through the old layout. Woah, your flashes were still archived? I've got to go back and check on some of mine, there are still a few that I'm missing...

wait what!? you can't use the waybackmachine for viewing old flashes that aren't there anymore right? i know it archives video and audio files, would be nice to see if there was some database for old flashes that aren't around anymore

Let's see... does look like they're not archived, though some flash elements on the main pages do work. It might have something to do with old flash pop-ups not being indexed, or maybe no flash is archived, it's just that certain files are still hosted here and linked to through the Machine. I've realized that's the case with plenty of page elements on my own site, some things that are included in CSS for example don't seem to get indexed. Doubt there is, but that'd be pretty cool.

Congrats man! Its cool to see people using this site after being on it for so long, it shows their commitment and stuff. awesome

And stuff? :P Thanks man, it's become a lifestyle.

by stuff, i meant how much they care. sorry, couldnt think of the right term >.<

Haha no problem, we're all here to share the care and stuff. :)Thanks again!

ah fuck, LOYALTY! thats what I really wanted to say. sorry for the triple post :( , feel free to delete the second one if you want

I have nothing against a surplus of profile posts. :) Loyal definably fits in with my persona... or maybe it's more like 'obsessed'. :P

Happy NG Decade Anniversary day!
Nice newspost there. It's good to see some veterans still see this site as something more than a habit and collaborate to it in their way. Thank you for existing!lol

Thanks!

It's definitely a habit, but it's much more than that too, it's a place to get inspired and inspire others, to help each other, to make the world a better place. :P Thanks for commenting!

Merry anniversary to you! Your account is probably older than some of the users here.

Haha, soon it'll be older than the required age of sign-up too! It's crazy... thanks btw.

It's been a pleasure having you on this site, keep being awesome!

It's been (and still is) a pleasure being here. Thank you; you too!

Sorry man I just tried to be funny I failed :'(

I got the joke, sorry if you got provoked! :( It inspired a rhyme yo, you've gots to know.

Wow, just look at the flood of comments this has created. I'll feel like a drop in the ocean congratulating you, but it just shows the kind of community we have here.
I bet you made some great friends over the years.

And DAMN those pictures gave me a big case of the nostalgias. So many memories.

Congrats on the big tenner man!

It may feel like a drop in the ocean, but know that in reality your comment shines like a star in the sky! (something about how the stars are countless)

That it does, and it's been getting kinder and kinder over the years, till the point where it's kind of a kind place nowadays! Makes me think I should've included something above about how I moved to other smaller communities because they were more personal back then, but how this place has become more and more personal over the years. I'd like to think I have, friend! Thanks.

Thanks to the dropdown menus on my old profile, I could check through my movies and open the link of the titles I had deleted later on. That's how I found their id numbers. My obituaries list felt really naked without them, so I was really happy about that! It was then I found out that one of the movie pages had been archived. The shockwaves themselves are gone, however.

Ah, so you found the pages! When I was searching for deleted stuff I think I had a link to one submission, or looked it up somehow (Google maybe), checked the date, and then went to that date in the obituaries. I've no idea what dates I submitted my first flashes which were understandably crap and most likely blammed, but for newer stuff it was easy to pinpoint the days. Shame the files don't remain though. :/

I'm looking forward to obituaries getting the reviews displayed again... going to have a trip of nostalgia when they are.

Do you track Sonic Cosmic Dimensions?
I saw in Episode 3 Blue Canon and Red Stones destroyed.
In SCD 4 Blue Canon is view.

I'm not tracking it, honestly don't recognize the name at all but I'm following the author so maybe I have watched an episode or two. Sounds like they dun goofed!

Yeah, definitely! So, bringing back the obituary reviews is in the planning then?

According to Tom it should be easy to fix! Source: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1358152/2#bbspost24931979_post_text

Let's hope they do get to it! :)

Congrats CD! Here's to another 10 years!

Thanks man! To the next tenacious ten and then some!

Interesting! Lots of changes going on then! Funny how you should bring up the "recommend for category" button. I came up with an idea that would render them useless. For this to work, the collection pages will need a complete makeover, with a list that looks much like the top50 of in the classic portal. Then, when users go and submit their movies, they get the option to pick a category right before they press submit. That way the collection pages maintain themselves automatically and always display the best/most recent movies of its kind. So, what do you think?

Yeah, hope it all goes according to plan, or better, and the new year has even more surprises in store than the ones outlined in that post!

Seems a bit like how the categories on the 'Latest' section (that I pretty much never visit) work, but with a more elaborate set of choices? Would that mean merging those categories with collections, or would it be a secondary way of sorting submissions? The automation sounds tempting, but I can think of a few potential flaws with such a system: 1) users would abuse it, and add themselves to collections they are not worthy of being included in, or that aren't relevant 2) it wouldn't be applicable retrospectively, unless users update their submissions, so collections for certain events or historical collections would still need manual modding, and 3) the category list would be extensive, with options for yearly events, specific themes, different series, etc (well maybe the system could hide closed collections from that list... so no yearly events at least), a lot to take in both as a submitter and a viewer.

Everyone could get into a collection too, there'd be no filtering away less desirable content like there is now, and thus less incentive to view a collection than to just browse a category (if they are separate). I believe the biggest lure with the old system was how the collections were something exclusive, getting into one was a real treat, and having a collection made for some genre/series/etc you created even more so. I remember dreaming about a Music Players collection but that obviously wasn't a workable idea looking back. :P

It also gave users the ability to make a difference, as fans, even if they didn't make anything they could show their dedication by nominating something. Not be to be discouraging but I liked the manual option better, though if the additional work gets in the way of keeping the collections up-do-date something like this might be the working option, or mods.

Ah yes, valid points. All of them. I like how deep you go into subjects like these :)

To address the issues:
1) User submissions are limited to a maximum of 2 categories. Picking the wrong category isn't going to do much. It's a lot like posting in the wrong forum. Whenever some spammer decides to pick the wrong category, I don't think anyone will get to see it, since it'll most likely be a piece of crap rotting in the sewers of Newgrounds somewhere.
2) I was thinking that every movie currently featured on the collections page automatically gets picked up in the list. Every movie that isn't up there yet can be added through the Project System by the users themselves.
3) Yearly events is pretty tricky, but I think I've come up with a solution: Anything related to the history of Newgrounds is off-limits. This is the only remaining category that should be maintained manually.

I think it's really important for users to feel like they can make a difference. Still I feel that updating these things manually will not be a viable option when the website keeps expanding and everything becomes harder to maintain. This might just be just me getting the wrong impression, but the Collections Area seems random and cluttered to me. Personally, I think the movies page is really uninviting. I would hate to see the categories page turn into something similar.

What can I say, this is a place I'm pretty passionate about! :) Seems you are too.

1) Limited to being included in two categories or just having two to choose from? Separate lists for genre and collection theme/event? The difference between the BBS and the Collections would be that Collections are viewed by a lot of people, whereas the forums only have a select userbase and the occasional new user who pops up and posts in the wrong place, with submissions this would be happening all the time, and I believe there's a much bigger fraction of new submitters everyday than there are new forum posters.
2) Sure, that works for existing collections, but I was thinking more of ones that aren't added as soon as they're relevant, like collections created for a certain theme after that theme has already grown pretty large. I can only theorize, but I'm guessing most authors won't go back to their submissions to get them into collections, most will just leave them be over time. And for collections like '2012' with the most notable submissions from that year, that shouldn't be something the users can choose to be included in, it should be for a selected few. Automatically porting over everything that's been frontpaged or everything that's earned an award would make for an excessive amount (over 1825 submissions)... maybe some collections could be automatic, some not?
3) Ah, Ok,, should've probably read that before I responded above. :P

Yeah, I'm getting that same impression, and it's not just the Collections, there are plenty of parts of the site that seem terribly outdated (like the Wiki), but for this in particular, with a reccomendation system, the admins or mods would be presented a selection of potential submissions to include, with a priority based on number of votes, that seems like a failsafe way to include new submissions.

Maybe a selection of current events could be displayed on the submission screen, so if users are submitting for things like Madness Day they could choose that in a list, rather than enter the tag and have staff browse through submissions by tag? Certain authors could gain access to certain collections as well, say Krinkels could gain access to the Madness collection (IOW have that collection appear as an alternative on his submission screens), and addition to this partial automation, a recommend feature for all submissions? If it's too much work for the staff, I'm sure mods would be willing to do the job of sorting through submissions, cleaning out submissions for events that aren't relevant, and accepting/declining submissions for theme-based collections. The admins would still have to take care of yearly collections, or the making of new ones.

I don't like the current movie screen either btw, the optimal thing IMO would be to combine collections and categories on the same page, and use the portal interface for judgment/recent/popular submissions.

first featured post? what about when everyone had front posting privileges back in 2007 lol

Oh man, we did?! I don't remember that at all... good times. :)

yep, it might of just been artists though. you could post a front page post once every two weeks.

Might've been! I don't remember having such a feature on my newsposting page until now.
