Happy Madness Day

Posted by Cyberdevil - October 25th, 2013

I know it's a bit late, but I just found this piece of amazing Madness-inspired art lying around that I was probably planning on posting some previous year and didn't; I don't want to wait another eleven months before I post it so here you go. Hope you had a good one!

In other news, just finished my piece for the WTF Collab (it's still accepting submissions, so here's the topic). It's a bit WTF but that's the point so if you think WTF while watching don't worry, it's a completely normal response! Also it's not supposed to loop so the beginning/end might seem a bit odd with nothing before or after. I'm just polishing up the preloader for the Halloween Collab too, but you'll have to wait till Halloween before you see that. :) Deadline is the 28th, which means there's plenty of time to make something if you haven't already! A lot of people are participating this year... and it turns out this is actually the first official Halloween Collab ever arranged! Being a part of it will be an honor.

Last but least, I'm uploading a bunch of old art. If you have some time, comments are always appreciated! :)

Happy Madness Day

Comments

yeah,a "bit"late madness day,but happy late madness day anyways.

I wonder if anyone dresses up like Hank for Halloween. :P Have a good one!

Hank for halloweeen = a butterfly, lol
See the art from TarantulaKid, he already made one epic halloween pic.
Also, thanks for the great piece! I hope see more ;)

A butterfly? Huh? I'm confused. :/
I would but I get a 'No user "tarantulakid" exists in our system' message... typo? There's been some great Madness art this year though, they say less is submitted for this occasion each year... but since there's an art portal now it must be the other way around! :D Looks like there are still Madness submissions streaming into the portal too, it's an all year even.
Yeah, definitely, drawing's fun! :)

Well....
Happeh madness day

Well....
You don't sound so happeh

I mean Tarantulakid96 (I forgot the number :P), and when I said about Hank being a butterfly for Halloween I mean, how can Hank be MORE scary than he's today? lol

Haha, true. Looked up Tarantulakid96's artworks, lots of Madness there! Nice!

Haha but it so just happens that i can't animate for shit XD.
I don't think i can pull out a half decent thing in 3 days, oh well there will be other times.

Well you have a 340 day headstart till next year, plenty of time to practice! :)

Like the art cy-cyber devil

Thank you Nor!

Kicking butt and taking names I see! There really has never been a Halloween collab before?!

Well I just checked a few recent years in the Halloween Collections and didn't see anything, but let's see what results some thorough research produces... no official collabs, but there does seem to have been a few collabs for Halloween over the years: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/516566 , http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/408083 , http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/275021 and http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/200427

Still this is the one big one! When it comes to Flash...

Woof, that last (and oldest) Flash was certainly a SickDeathFiend production lol!

So how many artists are on board? Poor Flash; it made NG what is is today, but it can't handle much.

You watched them all? :O Right now eight parts are complete, but there's probably 20-30 people on board, time will tell how many manage to complete their pieces before deadline! I really need to get a move on with my part for this...

Well newer versions of Flash seem do require a lot of system resources, but the earlier the version, the more it seems to handle. The Macromedia releases were still the best IMO, light and simple. I wonder how Flash would have evolved if they were still in the lead.

Watched em all? No, not yet, but I'll keep coming back to watch one each time I'm here.

Hard to believe there was so much pissing and maoning about Flash back when Macromedia owned it... twas mainly the updates that flummoxed the masses... but there were a few stellar glitches though, usually quickly patched.

A reasonable pace! :)

There was? I can't recall any moaning until Adobe claimed the Macromedia patents... I thought now was the pinnacle of whine, with the unendingly gloomy will to phase out this old loyal technology. Ah well, there was that one big security glitch that allowed Flashes to carry viruses...

From 2003-2011, my internet experience was on a shard computer (or a library public computer), half an hour's drive from my house. My cousins actions online, were my computer school :p Made good money un-fucking computers, between my cousins house and my house. My reputation was just taking off, when I got a full-time job in the evenings...

Oh yeah, now I recall the the dirty deals that preceded the ownership of Flash.... so damn long ago.

Eight years on a public computer! What was the time allocation per sitting? Or maybe they had no limits? Up North you only get one hour per booking/day, in the cities (here) it's usually much less, just enough to look up some information or check email...

Dirty deals? All I remember is everybody's dislike that Adobe was taking over. :/

My cousins house was all Saturday evening and night session, collecting files for my internet-virgin computer at home. First, a handfull of floppies, then burnable CD's, then a 1 GB USB stick....

I didn't do the library computer often, and was total crap to find work online... probably still is. The limit's 2 hours total for the day. Once I got a used laptop, that limit no longer applied.

Other than a patent ruckus around 2000 (between Macromedia and Adobe), I can't find anything on Wiki about any other dirty deals.... I joined NG in 2000, maybe Tom made light of that situation, at the time...

Sounds adventurous. I remember back when Internet access was still a luxury... and floppies could fit all the files I needed. :P Times change huh, now 16TB is barely enough and I'm mostly constantly connected. Do you still have a computer with a floppy drive btw? Had to get an external one when I upgraded a few years ago, and now it seems it won't read any of the floppies I have left anyway, maybe they've all aged and withered...

Is the limit still the same today? That's pretty high!

Aha. Historical remnants then hide within old news posts!

Okay, time out buddy... how many Terabytes?!?!

Yeah, I think I still got enough legacy stuff to transfer stuffs... from the floppy floppies on up. Even got a zip drive! The older the media, the more electrons have escaped. Though the EM footprint on those old ferrous discs should still be readable, unless they were around magnetic fields for a while. Heat also saps electrons from tape... but if you go to copy, make sure they're pretty warm - they use the same technique to remaster old 35 mm film's audio tracks.

Meh, 2 hours a day is okay; our town blew tons of dough on cheap dells, about 3 dozen of them for a town that has less than 40,000 people. Most are either affluent or in old age projects.

16TB? I use external drives for storage/backup and internal drives as a backup of those (through a docking system), so... a total 32TB capacity. :) I've been buying internal drives of varied capacities when I found them cheap, but the external drives are all 2TB WD (they went for around $50/each at lowest). Data really amounts after a while you know! I probably have NG material alone taking up about 500GB. For a while I stored everything on DVDs but that was a pretty stupid move, threw away 400+ burned DVDs a couple of years ago after transferring all the files to better devices. Some of them had already started becoming corrupted.

Good knowing. So to heat them up... what's the best way? Letting them soak in sunshine a while? I hear there's some magnetism in such warmth though...

It's more than OK compared to what we have! Up North they just have one public computer in Överkalix. But then again there are only a thousand citizens so that's more computer/person than it was in your down... also Dell btw. Must be some kind of conspiracy.

Dude had some words that clicked, pretty neat
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/627483

Inspiring! I think I'm going to trying making something like this myself. :)

super-long swords,LOL

Yeah, proportions are way off. :F

32TB of storage space? really? just how much do you have there? and why? is keeping things on DVD's really that unpractical? because i was thinking on doing it... but lets forget that.

20-30 artist signed!!!? that is a lot of people, what is the length limit for those, because lets say each one makes a 1-3 min long production... there we have about +- almost an hour of content! that, is not the first time it happens, but is still crazy each time something like that occurs.

Also since it seems that there will be so much participation, could you made a menu list and a timer, and since is a bunch of collages 20 is already quite the number, maybe a warning in the description would be nice, unlike what happened with African dudes (well there was a warning, in the medals, it was implicit, that giving the high amount of points awarded, that the flash was a long one, thus watching it twice even trice in a row deserved some medals), ah and navigation option would be great!

For real. :P As I mentioned half of that is backup space though, so there's probably not more than 10-12TB unique content. I have a pretty large collection of music, DVDs, photos, scripts and design resources, flash, website files, galleries, games, random junk... it amounts fast! :D Especially if you like saving and collecting...

Well the main downsides with DVDs versus HDs are that they have much slower read/write speed (especially if you have a drive/computer that supports USB3), that they age quickly (and thus files can become corrupted... depends on if you buy cheap/quality brand) and that they cost much more per GB. External drives with 2TB have the best balance between price/space right now, you can get one new for $80 or less, and 2TB would be the equivalent of 425 DVDs so... well I don't know exactly what DVDs cost right now but probably more, especially re-writable. :) Biggest benefit of drives though is that you just need one to store a vast amount of content, so it's easy to keep collections, backups, etc. DVDs have plenty of uses, but for any larger amount of files it gets pretty tedious. I know. :/

Yeah, it is a lot! Looks like just about half have actually finished their animations on time though... but that's judging by the thread, I sent in my submission via PM so others probably do the same... there's no length limit but most submissions are probably a minute or less (again judging by the thread).

African Dudes?

Yeah, a timer would be neat. VaguelyWonderful is working on the menu though, and puzzling together all them submissions, I'm just in charge of preloader/logo design... and some other stuff. :) To put medals on a movie you need to ask the staff for permission, the medal API is usually only available for games, so there probably won't be any of those though!

Compulsive hoarding? haha, im joking, but really...

Well indeed it comes cheaper than buying 425 DVDs. But i just can't see what i would put in 425 DVDs, i normally delete most movies, comics, games, and some books once i finish them, videos i usually just have them on DVD, burn them or just plainly delete them, but i do feel you, sometimes is not the same speed, i prefer to watch the files directly, even with original Movies which i own, so that much i get, but man, 12TB is still a lot! i hardly get even close, dude what the hell, haha.

Well i'm really not asking for medals (it would be nice though) but my idea was more of a warning in the video description like: "Be prepared, this video total length is 2 hours, please make sure you have the time in your agenda, and toilet paper... just in case you shit your pants!", kind of warning.

Haha yeah, I get obsessive easily. :P Sometimes it comes in handy (like when I had all the user icon files saved from the old crew when it was deleted) and sometimes it's just really unnecessary.

I'd be surprised if you did come close! :D Do you have any external drives though? Just one for temporary files is great. You can move it between consoles if you have a DVD/TV/PS3/ETC that supports that, easily take it with you, store backups of important stuff., fit content larger than 4,7GB (like B-Ray).. but hey, it sounds like you have it easy, no need to complicate. :P

Haha... well the amount of participating users will be in the description... how's that? Don't know how long it really turns out so we'll see!

Man i don't like to store stuff (well i do store my receipts/bills taxes, is more of a trauma tick, haha), i do have an external one but is only of 500GB, and that is already plenty for me, i have it for documents, images, and books, some rare songs, things i know that if i lost a part of me dies, haha.

Na i don't like to complicate myself, as a fact my desktop only has a wall paper, The CPU/RAM usage gadget, and the Recycle Bin for easy access, the rest is pinned to the task bar, or in the start menu...

Well if i see 20+... hell 10+ is already plenty, i will already know that the thing is long, but it's still nice to know before hand just how long it really is, just to know what we will be getting into once we hit "play all".

Haha, can't escape those. :D Sounds like you're all set up then, maybe it's even one of those slim types you can fit in a pocket? I've been going by price/performance so all the ones I have are pretty chunky... BUT I do have a metal case with carved out Styrofoam (or at least some kind of foam) slots for all eight backup drives. :D Yeah, personal stuff's easy to lose nowadays, with everything kept digital.

That's even simpler than mine! I have a pretty clutter free desktop too, compared to most... just use it for temporary projects/files I'm actively working and a couple of .txt files I use to save links, jott down rhymes etc, all shortcuts are in the start menu. Like so: http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/11c6fa71dbace82074ea67bc2f8009dd

Right side of screen is for stuff that might be there a while, left side for stuff that's really temporary, like downloads, test files, stuff I'll probably get rid of during the day. Way more efficient than it used to be...

Yeah, might be cool, I'll pass the idea onwards. @VaguelyWonderful , what do you think of mentioning in the description the running time for the collab, frames/24? :)

Happy Halloween.

Thanks, have a good one! :)

Just read the comments,
- medals would have been nice, but there isn't any time to add them anymore
- i'll try getting a run time for the project

hopefully the collab should be up in a few hours

That was fast! @Doomroar will be happy to hear it. :) Looking forward to this!

Metal case with carved out Styrofoam? damn, man you are hardcore! are they constantly plugged? or just for the times when you are going to make a back up?

My desktop looks like this: http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/7c7a907a1cba5de0b95066062847d165

- Ah, oh well, it doesn't matter as long as the videos come out fine.
- YES!
Indeed i am happy to hear it, haha.

:)

They're just plugged in for long-term backups, I have one other external plugged in all the time. Been planning to install something to make it backup stuff automatically but haven't gotten around to it yet...

Oh, a remarkable image! Any story behind that? Have you read the book?
