I know I am late but congratulations man.
I know you've been elsewhere man, living the real life. :) Thanks!
Lol,that's true.
Speaking of DooM << M
That was one of the very first games I played and is my favorite FPS next to Duke Nukem.
Awesome. :) It was one of my first games too. I remember playing the shareware version on my sister's computer back when I was waaay too little to be playing those kinds of games. I don't think I enjoyed it that much back then, but when I came back to it later on I was hooked. :) Only got into Duke Nukem later on, so I don't have the same nostalgic ties there, but it's definitely another great from that same era of legendary shooters. Any memories of Blood, Redneck Rampage, Wolfenstein 3D? Oh, and Marathon! Bungie's early masterpiece. It was a bit like Duke Nukem that one. Aliens. Other titles I'm remembering: Chasm, Dune, Dangerous Dave, Abuse... latter two were 2D though.
Duke Nukem forever turned out to be such a disappointment and I guess Doom 3 is decent..never played it though.
Speaking of legendary shooters..have you played Goldeneye 007 ?
Great game.
Haven't played Duke Nukem forever yet, maybe because of that (bad) hype... I did go through Doom 3. It wasn't bad, but didn't really feel like DooM anymore. Too much focus on stealth. Too much sneaking around, toggling a flashlight to see your surroundings, getting ambushed by the occasional demon rather than the hordes of the originals. I'm hopeful about the Doom 4, though! It seems they may be getting back to their roots! And there's a sequel planned for Duke Nukem too I think?
Ah yeah, Goldeneye was fantastic! Such a diverse and flawless shooter for its time. Should dig up my old N64 sometime and give it a nostalgia run... did you recognize any of those other older titles though? So much memorabilia packed in those.
That's true..it got tons of hype only for it to be terrible.
I only recognize Wolfenstien 3D.
I played tons of games on the N64 then I can imagine.
Another one is Perfect Dark..heard of it ?
Mmm.
Ah, alright, I guess the games I've mentioned were mostly for PC, though I did plow through a few of the more popular titles for N54/PSX back when... they were decreasing in popularity and I could get cheap games second-hand. Got started with TV consoles a bit late. :) As for the N64, apart from Goldeneye, the only one game I really spent too much time on is probably Banjo Kazooie Racing. :) I bought Doom 64 recently too, though it wasn't all that I hoped.
Have heard of Perfect Dark yes, but never played it. Seems to be a bit stealth-oriented?
I was into playing games on consoles rather than PC but nowadays it's flipped.
Yes.. Perfect Dark was a great game. Co-Op Story mode was great, Multiplayer was better, Graphics were better, Gameplay was better, Story was better, Soundtrack is one of the best I ever heard in a game period, stage design was better, secondary fire was a great addition, tons of weapons , , Enemies were smarter and fought waaayyyyy harder, customization of characters on Perfect dark was great, stages were harder, atmosphere actually made you feel like a spy.
Consoles are turning into real computers lately. :) I might've really moved over to the console type of gaming if it wasn't for how short-term support newer titles have now, and how much they rely on Internet and updates to keep working. Easier to mod with a PC; franchises you like can live on forever!
Sounds like something I really need to play some time! :D Better/harder/greater than any particular other game? Is it a sequel? Generally, I like games where you just go all out rather than sneaking around, but there are exceptions (like Wolfenstein). Hope this'll be one of them.
The greatest thing about playing games on a PC is getting to mod them since that makes it 20x more fun.
For me..it's like an upgraded Goldeneye.
Definitely. And they never age! You can update the graphics, port them to new engines, add particle effects and dynamic lighting and just keep it going forever! The original DooM has been enhanced so much it's like a new game if you use the right ports. And then there are mods like Brutal Doom that change the functionality to the point where it's like another game.
Ah, sounds promising! Goldeneye was one of those games where the stealth didn't get in the way of the action IMO.
Stealth....have you ever played one of the Hitman games ?
I tried the first one. Not my cup of tea unfortunately! Is it similar?
You already made a mistake.
Hitman blood money is the best in the series.Absolution was also decent.
I tried the first when there was one only the first one out. :) But alright, will look into the sequels!
A game is always more fun when you like it's genre.
True that!
My bad for flooding your newspost.
No worries. :) Was good speaking to ya! Reminiscing on the golden oldies of gaming!
It was nice speaking to you too man.
Obligatory response though I have nothing to say. :) Cheers!

How was your username inspired by DooM ?
Cyberdevil
Well, the second boss you face (in the Tower of Babel) is a huuuge cybernetic beast known as the Cyberdemon. And I owned that game, back then, I thought, so I twisted the name to Cyberdevil, a leader of the legions of sorts, a superior being. :) The name's changed meaning for me since then, but that's how it all came to be! I used to play that game a LOT.
