That's really sweet of you. :D

Thanks. Mighty kind of you to comment. :D

Nice droplets!

Yessir, like little buds of new Mountain Dew.

Hmm, the old post didn't even smell bad yet.

Fresh postatoes are the best though, with molten butter and diced onions. Mmm...

definitely sierra mist/sprite.

Go green

Refreshing! :)

Like a tub of ice! :)

Now I'm thirsty...

Better drink something fresh!

I licked the screen.
Oh golly I feel like electricity is in my mouth.

Fizzy :P

That is indeed one fresh post!

Indeed!

how do you make these things ? :)

With a few deciliters of blood, sweat and tears!

How did I do for a complete novice? http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1337667
Pity I wasted my #420 post on a help/where-to thread :P but the kid's determined, and I like that.

Imagine having a postcount numbering the thousands with only such thoughtful and elaborate posts as ^. :) Read that this morning btw, that forum is the first one I check at the start of a new day. Probably because I've been waiting on Auz to update the top 100 reviewers list a couple of weeks now... have you always been reviewing btw? I've just started noticing your occasional reviews for submissions I view, don't think I've seen the name in the review sections earlier. Your halfway to spot #100, JSYK. ;)

Helping out new users is all but wasted time though, it's what makes the Wi/Ht such a rewarding forum. It seems people have started posting threads that should be in the Wi/Ht in other forums; a lot of NG related topics go straight to General. Maybe if the staff started posting more in the Wi/Ht more users would turn their heads there.

Thanks man! Yeah I don't use the BBS system as much as I should, but I prefer blog commenting and prowling like a cat, which under favorable circumstances, means reviewing. I'm not here to break any records, that's for sure. it's all about eliciting the best from who's here. I used to write more, yep.....

Man, you're not kidding about (the lack of) staff posts in the help section. One of the first things I was told here was, "If it's a site request, post it in Tom's recent news thread."

Again, thanks for your perspective... I can't see it from where you're at :P Very glad to have something new to think about.

You've already broken a few though. ;) I don't know if I'd be half as active without the stats and rankings, they're great motivation. But then again newspost comments aren't counted and that doesn't seem to matter much...

They said that back in 2001? :O No wonder posters are migrating.

Perspective swapping is great practice, broadening views on worldly truth; thank you too!

That would make an awesome wallpaper.

I'm 300 points ahead of you in medals, should I wait for you to catch up?

I barely had any medal points at the start of this year, so... just keep going, I will catch up! ;)

Wow, had no idea I was near the top 50 in number of reviews... sad, that.
'N you numba 2 with a bullet! Congrats!

Sad that there's not that big a difference in the #50-#100s? Indeed; thanks! I'll bw slowly making my way towards the next rank. That may be the end of the line though, X is still light years ahead!

If I remember correctly, aren't you the guy who used to have 500+ news posts? haha.

I had over 2000 for a while. :)

abbiegale beat me to the punch.
Starting to think a sign of the times, is when people get so poor, they can't even go online anymore (lose job, lose home, try and start all over), and it's not news, you wouldn't notice... how bad is it really getting IRL?

Don't they have (free) public library computers in the US? Fortunately my financial situation isn't so dreary I've been forced to take such unpleasant countermeasures, I've just been on vacation... if you can call days filled with harsh physical labor in the icy near-alpine reaches of the Northern Norths beyond civilized bounds vacation... my grandma lives up there. For the past few years it's been a bit of a tradition to pay her a visit every spring, she's 92 so she can use an extra hand shoveling snow and stuff. :)

where r u

Back! :D

It's more of a time issue... if you don't have a set schedule of work (ie, job, college, self employed) you might be online more... but for how long? Once the money runs out, time on internet is a scavengeable thing (since you can't afford home service). I used to scavenge what I could from NG, then enjoy it later in my hovel. Soooo many medal games I played offline, you gots no clue!

Those bent handled snow shovels, with the slight sideways play in the head, are worth their weight in gold! What else you do at gramma's house? Clear trees, cut n haul firewood? Gotta a hydraulic log splitter?

Would you have been up at 100k medal points? :O I miss the time when I'd play a game and just enjoy playing the game though, without a need for rewards to keep me going. Most new games, even commercial ones, seem to have a need for built in award-systems. Doesn't seem to be enough with a rewarding experience, the accomplishment needs to manfiest in physical (err... digital) form as well.

An ergonomically bent handle? The one I've been using is a bit of an antique, handle's actually handmade (grandpa-made), just a regular T shape in wood, and an aluminum plate to go with it... thick enough that you can hack through ice-coats without it breaking. The plastic ones can't handle the pressure. :) In spring plowing a path around the house before it melts, freeing the balcony and clearing walkways is the main task. I was up late this year though so it was already melting, almost a meter of wet snow. It's much more fun when it's dry...

I used to help fill the cellar with fuel for the winter. Lately she's been getting a bit lazy though; doesn't want to walk down the cellar steps everyday to warm the house so there's not much wood work anymore. And yeah, hydraulic log splitters are a lot of fun. :) It definitely feels more rewarding than chopping with a regular axe, though if I could manage the same amount of work manually I definitely would. I really appreciate the change in labor type though, sitting in front of a computer all winter gets a bit dull at times.

Just checked my offline save archive, got about 60 or so game saves, but they don't mean squat, since you have to be online to score the medal, as it happens. Damn fair amount of RPGs in that game save file... but not 100K in points, maybe10 or 20K at most. When consoles starting going online, those medal things started popping up... gotta blame Sony and MS and Nintendo for that marketing gimmick.

Lowers the center of gravity, you have to try this to believe it!!

7, 8 y/o, I'd bundle up and split gummy wood with a sledge and chisel. Had to be below 20 F before that smelly stuff would split (and not sink)... after half an hour, I'm down to my T-shirt splitting logs. Boy ma got pissed, but I was sweating!

Ah. still a lot, but the previous comment seemed to hype it past 20k. :) RPGs are probably the most time-consuming games though. Epic Battle Fantasy 4 yet? Seems some have stat-based medals rather than progress-based, so there should be ones were you can unlock old medals again with continued play. In EBF4 for example, you could unlock all the 30k/300k/3m damage medals at once with one attack.

Does look useful, and durable. I imagine I'd get a lot more shoveling done each day with a less back-breaking tool. :) At the turn of the century, it seems all people were so damn short (like my grandparents). Must've been all the hard work and harsh living conditions that didn't let them fully grow... all the archways in the house require ducking to get through. Main point, snow shovel is also not as long as I wish it would be.

How does gummy wood burn? Up here it's mostly birch, which is easy to split when it's fresh, and pine, which is easy to split when it's dried up. Birch specifically packs a lot of energy though, just a few logs easily warm up the whole house if it's not incredibly cold out.

EBF4? ...I started it and saved the game :\ It might be worth importing some games and getting the 100% complete stuff. Just too much at home to deal with.

I believe your analysis is correct. If I didn't have to carry 2, 5 gallon pails to the garden for much of my childhood, I woulda been at least 2 inches taller. In highschool, I could leg press 500 lbs. If I only had that shovel growing up, I would have grown up! Also did ditchdigging, surveying and all kinds of underground utility work.

Birch and light pine are excellent firewood. There's a bit more diversity where I'm at, and there are some appalling smells that can come out of the woodpile if you're not careful. Creosote is the enemy ya gotta watch out for - too much sap can cause flammable material in the smokestack (as I'm sure you know)

Out of all the RPGs I've played so far that's probably the most fun one, though the leveling up process is gruelingly slow towards the end of the game. Ah, read the post but could nae comment, what's the plan when the farm's sold? New living location?

2.5 gallons is... 10 liters. We have a large garden at our summer place but a shallow well, so there's been plenty of carrying water from the lake when it starts drying up. It's only been a fourth of the year for me though; I had no trouble growing (184cm). It seems any work I do will never compare to that of the old generation though, from the tales told it seems they worked 16 hour days, made their own clothes, fetched their own food, built their own houses, even made their own tools. My grandgrandfather was a blacksmith so there are still some homemade items being put to use. Underground utility work as a profession btw? Or is that something running a farm requires?

In the perfect future I hope to live in the place mentioned above. It's a one acre field and one acre woods, right by a lake, with one nearby neighbor, in a small village, in the middle of nowhere. With access to the wilderness + access to Internet, both a small farm and a server farm for occupation... that would be an ideal form of life.

Ah, yeah, we had flames spouting out of a chimney one summer. As long as there aren't any pine trees near the chimneys it doesn't seem that big a problem though. Btw, do you chew hardened pine sap? It's just like gum, and antiseptic. Not sure if all types of pine have edible sap though...
