did you know there are no natural Swedish words that contain the letters q (since 20th century) or z. And up until 2006 w and v where the same letter. Even search letters treated them as equivalents.

I do know about w and v, it's common still that you use them interchangably sometimes, though for appearances at least names aren't so flexible. Found that pretty strange when I came back here after years of international schooling and alphabetism...

Did not know about Q or Z! Interesting...

my Pakistani friend moved to Germany. Now my only two friends are in the same time zone!

Ah that's why you were planning on visiting Germany too then? That's cool, though unfortunately far off man, hope you have at least some superficial colleagues nearby over there too!

@Cyberdevil yeah right bahaha. We’re gonna have to learn whatever tf “skibidi rizz Ohio gyatt” means eventually lmao. Mmm that sounds delicious! my favorite toppings were always nuts, sprinkles and maraschino cherries altogether in a bowl with vanilla ice cream! I’ve never made my own personally, had a friend whose mom would actually make us “snow ice cream” when it snowed back in Ohio. It was so cool and delicious and fun!

Oh no! XD Though the rizz has got a certain sizzle to it fo shizzle, the new age may not be totally bleak or abysmal! Ah maraschino cherries, I wonder what kind of cherries we have over here, they're very seasonal, and jars and jams may not be a thing we import... finna try that if I can get some! Any particular type of sprinkles?

Topped the latest batch here with some lemon balm leaf and field berries. :) Not as sweet, but looked nice.

I've never tried snow ice cream either! Didn't know that was a thing. Seems like about as close as you'd get to the very origin of ice cream; how they ate it a thousand years back... looks good too.

borborygmus

AKA 'stomach rumble'!

Interesting word, I wonder if I can use it in something....

@Cyberdevil I think gen z lingo is hilarious…so at least I haven’t turned into a grumpy millennial yet! Mmm fresh cherries sound amazing. I am a cherry girl. I love the taste, texture, the shape, the juice, the color! Multi colored sprinkles! The ones with the pinks, white, greens, etc. jimmies! The crunch between the chopped nuts and sprinkles is so perfect. Snow ice cream is definitely yummy! And such a unique experience. What else have ya been up to?

That's good. :) I'm a little concern... err I mean CURIOUS about how them next gens will turn out when they grow up though. Is the lingo just a phase? Is this the way we'll actually all have to speak in the future; the kind of culture that'll permeate the workplace too?! Feels like the facilities of the world might start to crumble and break down if it is... well I may be slowly transforming into a pesky pessimist myself but at least I'm pescatarian and thus partially on par with the new order! XD Hopefully we'll get along aight!!!

You do make 'em sound pretty enticing. :) Cherry wine's nice too... we have some trees nearby but I've never actually checked if they bear fruit, gotta pick some this year if they do. And jimmies huh! Natural coloring, I was expecting a tonna artificial dyes or something, not bad at all... sprinkle rich ice cream pics TBC this summer!

Well we're driving up North tomorrow. :) The big 1000 km trip. In a new car, since the old got mauled in a roundabout. Just ordered a new greenhouse, since winter killed the last one. The farm stuff's starting up for real now, and summer, funner times. :) How 'bout you?

Top of the morning, kinda

Kinda yeah, a bit earlier than I'm used to at least. :) Top of the morning to ya!

top of the night. are you up North now?

Top of the morning man, missed notifications last night apparently! Halfway now, overnightin' by the 'High Coast', Örnsköldsvik

only an 18 hour flight away :P

Almost faster by plane across the globe than by car across the country! XD ~16 hours for us, bit quicker if I'm solo

ever rode kangaroos to Kangos?

Not yet! That'd be kool

@Cyberdevil well the alphas are only in like… middle school aren’t they? I highly doubt you’re still using the same goofy lingo you used in middle school…and the gen z’ers are already IN the work place…so calm down old man lmao. If the world does end so be it….it was supposed to end years ago! Yes please show me food porn! Ooh a new green house sounds great too! I’ve got a couple trips: Ohio, New Orleans, Disneyworld, a cruise later on in the year…mainly just enjoying the sunshine and pool time over here! Eating my way through both Michelin star and locally owned mom & pop restaurants! Watching lots of tv and movies, playing video games, yard maintenance, house chores, etc etc etc all the life things!

Fair point! XD It bothers me they're called 'alpha' too, all this alfalfa considered... but what hither! Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds, how they change the world, for better or no... hey I may be old but I'm not moldy YET I'm still a totes golden vet - ancho/anjovi fresh!!!

You have a kinda fatalistic view of the world don'tcha Kiwi? :P

I guess a healthy dose of porn shoots are coming up this summer then! The greenhouse may not be as fancy as the last one, it's plastic instead of glass, but hopefully this frame withstands winter better... cheapness considered it's looking pretty good though. Fixed up foundation and part of the frame today, remainder tomorrow... hey were you still growing stuff yourself? Strawberries?

Oh Disneyworld too! Is the cruise to some particular place, or just out on the waves? That all sounds hella nice. The Michelin star desert looked *chefs kiss*! I'm starting to accumulate a bit too much of that 'etc etc etc all the life' type stuff these summers lately too but... finna get in a lot of sun and lake time at least, we're hopefully touring all nearby frisbee golf courses this year, and mom's hitting an even 80 y/o, big party then.

So far seems to be shaping up to be a p good summer.

@Cyberdevil yeah the alpha name is wild bahaha. but maybe it’ll bring a change, who knows. history just repeats itself. wtf is ancho/anjovi? Hey my view of the world is that I’ve had a good life and if it ends that’s okay! no ragrets. ;) porn shoots?! Bukkake? Orgy? Lesbian? Let me see the greenhouse when it’s in full effect! Currently the tomatoes have finished, the beans never took off, I’ve got peppers, mangos, starfuits and a pineapple growing! Also some herbs and tonsss of indoor plants! Most recently got a big monstera and I love it! cruise is going to Turks & Caicos! Damn 80 that’s a long life, happy belated to her! Frisbee golf…we call it disc golf right? or different things? Have a great summer regardless of what you get into!

Maybe! I've wondered if the reason people with the same names often seem to have similar traits is because the name itself as certain connotations, and you grow into the expectations thereof, kinda... hope this is the same thing. Oh just random very not-fresh-looking ingredients that were relevant in rhyme there. XD A type of wrinkled chili/heavily salted fish. But I typoed Anchovy! My bad.

Mhm mhm, I aspire that kind of attitude. :) Freedom. Spontaneity. Life without cumbersome limits, free from the shackles of social stigmas shames and vanity! Just wishful trips, blissful wits and unpredictably quipped creative but greatly exhilarating insanities!

Oh just anything saucy, ranchy, raunchy, stanchy; shot in suitably sloppy and staunchly demeanor... with sprinkles of herbs or syrup, seeds all stirred up, pictures of feasts with the leanest home-grown legumes, placed in taste in a dreamy scene with the plates serene by the greenest fielders... food porn right? :P Anything umami mami! I'm a get some pics of that greenhouse growth too for sure. :)

Daaamn you really live in a tropical area, that sounds amazing, can only dream of mangos, and pineapple over here, though I hear watermelon might actually be possible. Maybe starfuits too... oh I hadn't even heard of Turks and Caicos before! Looks beautiful. Yupp disc golf, that's what the pros call it. XD Hopefully 80's not her final decade either, grandma made it past 90, will do! A grand summer to you too Kiwi! May you get sun and good times in abundance!

I hope to use this summer for personal self development! I'm excited to learn about anything that I want now that I'm off of school for 2.5 months!

Nice, hope you get into some fun types of self development too! Happy Summer good dude!

"I guess a healthy dose of porn shoots are coming up this summer then!"

scrolled through saw that line by itself and thought what the heck has Cyberdevil gotten into

XD

More than I can chew off possibly... gotta get some real exotic sprinkles for my ice cream somehow.

hey whats up :)

Heeey BumFodder! Heading up to the farm in a week or so, summer's up, surf's up, the world's rough but green scene's still in surplus...

How you doin' these days?

ever seen Aftersun?

I don't think so no, I suppose it's a good one? Not the genre I usually look for but may be an inspirational; motivational; emotional ride... adding to watchlist

@Cyberdevil Trying to deal with the cold weather, it's hardly been hot at all. I've been in blankets almost every evening even though it's summer.

Oh it's that cold over there! It's been a bit cooler than usual here too but just right for me personally. Nights are refreshing, days are still warm, it seems we're getting a bit of a heatwave this coming week but otherwise it's been unusually good...

Wonder if the gulf stream change is messing with our weather though. The last few years it feels like summer's come earlier, and ended quicker, had snow that stuck around early October last year, which is way too early. But summer's been WARM.

top of the morning (kinda). ever seen Brother (2022). This one hits close to home

Kinda top of the morning S3C. :)

I don't think I've seen Brother no, I've seen the cover... looks good too. Shall watch.

top of the morning

Top of the morning S3C!

What do you think about a spelling reform for English? I recently watched a documentary about how English is a huge collection of memes. So many orthography-pronunciation irregularities?

I may not be interacting with the same groups or content as you, but personally I don't feel like it's a problem yet. Language is a living thing, and is bound to keep evolving and changing as the culture does, naturally, without any forced reform, but to adhere to whatever's relevant to the society we reside in where that language is spoken. I do get annoyed at certain new sayings occasionally, but just don't use the ones I don't like. Ultimately the words that survive will be those we used the most, so we just need to be mindful of using language to our best ability, of being well-spoken and versatile with our vocabulary. I think those who grow up on memes now will have to change the way they speak eventually. Hopefully a lot is just a phase.

Orthography-pronunciation irregularities though, curious what kind of changes you're thinking of when you say that? Any examples on how you notice it's degrading?

@Cyberdevil Search up on YouTube "English is so confusing," and look at the results. I notice these irregularities, such as knife, night, bright, light, trigonometry, tricycle. The first four have silent letters. For the final two, the "tri-" sound is different! I wanted to ask this question after watching on YouTube: "The English Language is Still a Giant Meme."

And in trigonometry and trigonometric, the second "O" is pronounced differently depending on which one you're using. One is a noun; the other is an adjective.

More resources that confuse speakers: https://blog.duolingo.com/common-english-homophones/

Oh, irregularities like this! The English language for sure is confusing, both in how you pronounce and how you spell things, very true. It took me a long time to get some things right, and I'm still learning. Like for example I pronounced the surname Glover like Glow-ver for the longest time, like clover, didn't realize it was a name based on a glove-based profession...

I don't think we need a reform though, it's just one of those things that takes a lifetime to master. :) We've created entire languages in the past just for ease of use (like Esperanto), but I don't think a language is at it's best when it's at it's easiest, but more so when it's not; when there are nuances and layers to everything, and it's steeped in a long line of cultural references and history that makes it all the more complex the more it develops... it's what gives it soul; what makes it personal and palpable after all. And it's alive; it keeps evolving too. Some words we forget, some we invent, some change along the way... it's a beautiful reflection; collective collection of expression and humanity in scriptive; so very descriptive form overall. The more complex it is, the more variation; the more you can do with it too. Inconsistencies are one of many spices that make it so decisive IMO.
