peace out?

Peace out :)

google now has infinite scroll (click) replacing paginated results wtf. 2020 truly is utter sh*t lmao

Device-based...? I'm still getting pagination there. *relief*

Peace out for just a while @S3C !

But hopefully world peace for all eternity.

no new newspost wtf!

It's just a week though! Vacation solits ain't like they used to be

oh...so the longer one is in july then?

Yupp. All July hopefully.

still...no blogpost yet for this year, what's up with that...I need to follow suit and update my page soon

Hmmm! This one's f om last year yeah... with the 2020 title you wouldn't think it so. Just a few more weeks then. Traditional official super summarized summer post coming right up....

You are only 414 medals away from becoming the first hexalisted member...speaking of that list, I know you have a 'crawl date' for each update, but how much of the process is automated? Shouldn't be too hard to design a backend Python script or something that crawls listed member's webpages and updates the content daily, or so.

Around 990 actually. :) The count in the sidebar's wrong: https://cyberdevil.newgrounds.com/stats/medals

I believe the side one shows all medals. Even removed ones. Happy they do still show that somewhere, though not sure it's intentional...

The crawls are actually automatic these days, courtesy of byteslinger and: https://www.wkrconcepts.com/nglogs/index.php?id=lists

It used to be I crawled users via a program (also courtesy of byteslinger - she's been behind the official crawl program for a decade at least now - it used to be used for Top Reviewers, Top EXP etc - only the medal list uses a separate thing). The program took around 6-8 hours, more and more as users were added to it, but it hasn't been updated through the latest userpage changes and doesn't work like it should now. All users registered in the NG Logs database are crawled at the start of each month now instead, and the lists on-site compiled from that data. I have an Excel file I match against the .csv you can download there for each update, so no crawl time at all, and a bit less time on the update process too, maybe 1-2 hours at most.

Only downside is I no longer get info for ALL crawled users on my list. :) Just the ones that qualify. Was pretty cool to have that extra data before...

@S3C again: *no crawl time at all for me personally I mean. The site runs a a few parallel threads to crawl data faster, but it's still a pretty heavy process, and heavier since the userpages were redesigned so review numbers for example have to be combined. Can't just get everything from one collective 'stats' page. Though she was working with BrentHeMan on maybe getting an official API connection setup to make it even easier. Don't think that's a priority though.

Either way this is a way to centralize everything, and not have to crawl stats individually for each list. Pros definitely outweigh the cons, though I was resistant to switch over until I really had too. Liked being in control of everything, crawl date too, as it is I post the updates according to the usual schedule, but the stats are actually fetched a couple weeks earlier. So not perfect.

Nice. XD

6-8 hours?? can't imagine why it would take that long.

I just wrote a script that crawled all 588 users on the hexalist, run from Google VM (single thread at that), took 22 minutes. Should only be hitting 3 pages per user: one for reviews/exp/blams/saves, one for posts, one for metals.

Also, my script tracks name changes ;)

Well the full crawl list was around 3000 users, everyone on the list and any other active user with potential to be (probably missed a bunch though, I barely ever added to it), but definitely seems like you made something more efficient! :D No trouble with time limits on page requests? Did you figure out exactly how long the script needs to wait for each one...? Or maybe those are gone now?

Nice. :) The Mathematical, classical, culturally enriched Sobolev turning to SHITPOASTER though, what a twist! Austerity turning to SuperUltraAusterity, that was at least five years back... surprised nobody's caught that namechange yet either. Nice. Any chance you could run the full crawl list? Finna be a ton of these changes lurking there too.

Do you leave today or tomorrow?

Tomorrow! Time always runnin' out too fast though

@S3C actually maybe I gave a different date before. it's July 2. Was planned to be July 1, but the airline changed my time to a bit too early a time so I had to change the day. Last workday today.

Do you know the population of Newgrounds?

As in people here? I do know a fair share, though can't say I know everyone. I didn't know olskoo personally if that's what you're wondering, only by name/stumbling upon his work and comments occasionally. I wish I did now though.

@HumanPBS @Cyberdevil Talking about all accounts here.

Yeah I can't say I know all of them. :) If I recall correctly there were about six million last time I checked, but too many to keep track of! But if you ever wonder about some particular user feel free to ask, I might know them. Always curious either way.

hehe I AM the first commenter! wonder who deleted their account...

So it seems. :) Maybe you sniped some other first spots too hmm... wasn't Nietz here was it? Maybe Kruno? He deleted his pretty recently...

did not age well

Yeaah I was a LITTLE better prepared with the wordplay this year XD

The world's become a pretty strange place these last couple years...

im not in a posting mood and it doesnt help that I dont have a fully functional keyboard. but lets make the most or least of the last day of 2021

What happened to your keyboard? Yeaaah let's do it! The most, preferably. At least. Or more.

was gonna write I miss 2020-2021 (not for those reasons) but then I realize nietzlawe axed his account again and I got sad

Nooo, why... gone entirely. Did he do that last time? Seem to recall he just started fresh content-wise? Maybe I'm remembering that wrong... or he was back before I noticed the account itself disappearing.

I reached out a while ago but no response then, hope he's alright...

Seth is also gone :(
Apparently we are not allowed to talk about it on the BBS though

Whaaat him too, spoke to him just recently as well... wish there was a way to get a head's up with these things so I could archive some stuff real quick at least, what a shame...

He did write a newspost speaking about how he was ready to delete his account, but I thought he'd changed his mind; we'd managed to convince him not to.

Reason being he didn't agree with three day ban he'd gotten.

At least I think it was three days. Was very short-term at least.
